Fire 8x10
Amy was the Art Director for the Barrington Elementary schools in Rhode Island, where she was able to provide her students with a program that not only focused on the visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and mixed media), but the performing arts as well. Within this program her students were able to experience dance, music, and theatrical performances that broadened their arts experiences while also connecting with their visual arts experiences in the art room. Amy's hope was to share her appreciation for art in all of its forms and foster this same appreciation in her students. She hope it worked!
And though Amy has closed the chapter on her career as an art educator, the children’s joyful freedom of spontaneous expression will always be an inspiration in her art work. Another important inspiration for Amy has been music, her work at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland, RI has afforded her the opportunity to witness the amazing power of music for the past 25 years.
When she was in her teens her Dad helped her paint her first mural on her bedroom wall. It was a black and white image of Block Island, her favorite place in the world and the place of many wonderful and meaningful family memories. It, and the ocean, have always inspired Amy in her art work.
Amy is currently enjoying creating her own fluid abstract paintings in acrylic and mixed media artwork inspired by live music, the wide spectrum of human emotion, and the rhythms of nature.
